Friends,
As you may remember, Oakridge Landfill in Dorchester County has applied for a permit to fill 14 acres of wetlands in order to expand operations.
Thanks to everyone who sent in a letter, DHEC has scheduled a public hearing for the permit request to take place Wednesday, April 24th at 6 pm at the Kenneth F. Waggoner Services Center, 201 Johnson Street in St. George.
It is very important to attend this hearing and speak about your concerns. Even if you aren’t certain you want to speak, your attendance helps DHEC understand the importance of the issue!

RE: P/N# SAC-2011-00189-21G, Oakridge Landfill, Inc.
Dear Ms. Green and Mr. Hightower,
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the recent permit application from Oakridge Landfill to fill 14 acres of freshwater wetlands.
Filling these wetlands will disrupt water flow into Halfway Gut Creek and subsequently 4 Holes Swamp, home of Beidler Forest. I request a public hearing and that the Army Corps require an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to assess the full impacts of filling wetlands on Halfway Gut Creek, Beidler Forest, 4 Holes Swamp, and the nearby community of Delee.
Please notify me of any subsequent hearings or announcements regarding this permit application.
Thank you,

Ladies and gentlemen,
I just got a call from Jeff DeBessonet at SCDHEC reporting that the agency had gotten a call from the consulting engineer for SCWSA asking that these permit applications be “dead-filed” thus terminating any further activity on these matters. Jeff indicated that “dead-filed” is the functional equivalent of withdrawal of the permit applications. This contact came in the wake of SCWSA and BBLV terminating their previous contracts on this initiative, a process that has been unfolding for the past few weeks. I will be asking for a written confirmation from Jeff shortly.
Once again, on behalf of FRED and our beautiful River, I am so grateful for all the efforts of all of those who contributed to this result. I believe this is a great day for the Edisto River, and calls us all to re-dedicate ourselves to the special effort to conserve and protect this beloved resource that God has given us.
With great respect,
Tim
