FRED members received an e-mail earlier this week offering $10 Gift Memberships in FRED, and we've gotten a few questions about that offering, so here's the deal:
Do I have to be a FRED member to give a Gift Membership? Well, actually, no, you don't have to be a member to purchase Gift Memberships. We are offering these special holiday memberships as a way of expanding our membership, and we expected most of the response would be from existing members wishing to share their interest in and love of the Edisto with friends and family, but we're happy to have new memberships given to anyone, by anyone.
Who can receive a $10 Gift Membership? Anyone to whom you'd like to give a one year individual membership. (If they're a new first time member of FRED, they qualify. You just need their name and e-mail address, although it would be great if you can fill out the rest of the information on the form as well.)
How many Gift Memberships can I give? As many as you would like to give. Just fill out a Gift Membership information form for everyone on your list, and pay using the PayPal checkout app that appears once you've filled out the form. Or, if you'd prefer, contact us directly and we can help you through the purchasing process.

This holiday season, Friends Of The Edisto would like to invite you to purchase $10 Gift Memberships for your friends and family. A FRED Gift Membership is the perfect Stocking Stuffer for everyone on your list who knows and loves the Edisto River.
Giving a FRED membership will help us as we work to protect our beautiful blackwater Edisto River. The power of groups like FRED is their ability to bring together people who share an interest, and to provide an opportunity for all of those individual voices to join together. When many of us speak with one voice, our voices are not just added together. They are multiplied.
When you give a membership in Friends Of The Edisto, we’ll use that $10 contribution to support our ongoing efforts to do outreach and education about the river; to advocate on behalf of the river; and to promote understanding of and interest in issues that have a direct bearing on the health and sustainability of the Edisto as a healthy and vibrant ecosystem.
A FRED Gift Membership is a full Individual Membership – usually available for $25 – and provides that new member with free access to all of FRED’s Member Events held along the river throughout the year. Members will also receive the FRED newsletter, and will be added to our list of Friends Of The Edisto who we reach out to with news and information on issues of concern for the Edisto and its people.
