Looking back, and looking forward...

For the Edisto River and for Friends of the Edisto, what a year this has been!

For much of 2015, the Edisto Basin remained in the clutches of punishing drought conditions, giving great emphasis to the failure of the South Carolina Surface Water Withdrawal Act to provide protection for adequate stream flow in the river. Efforts to reform the law were not successful in the legislature.

Those efforts continue, however, and must ultimately succeed to insure the sustainability of the health of the Edisto.

Meanwhile, autumn brought a historic flood to the region, leaving behind a scarred landscape that will take years to mend.

The iconic Edisto has bound together the South Carolina low country for generations, but this year reminded us in painful ways that we cannot take our precious river for granted. More than ever, the Edisto River needs her friends!

As we celebrate the Holiday Season and 2015 draws to a close, thank you for your support for the Edisto and for FRED. If we continue to grow FRED, we can make a difference to assure that our river will be preserved for future generations.

To help FRED grow, we are offering annual gift memberships for new FRED members for only $10! The Edisto’s most precious asset is more members for FRED. Your tax-deductible gift will mean so much to boost FRED’s profile of effective advocacy for our great River.

Learn more about our gift memberships here. Or, simply make your check out to FRED and mail it to FRED at Post Office Box 5151, Columbia, South Carolina, 29250, and remember to send us the name and contact information for our new FRED member!

Thank you! Your support is so important to us!

Hope to see you soon on the river!

Happy Holidays!
